In my previous post I outlined how easy it is to connect your Blackbaud data via Blackbaud’s SKY API to Microsoft’s Power BI via Grant Quick’s BlackbaudSkyApi custom connector on Git Hub. I also provided a link to download a free Power BI Template file (.PBIT) Power BI template file that would convert and assemble your RE NXT received revenue data automatically.
Here’s a quick overview video of that free Power BI Template file (.PBIT) that demonstrates how it accurately reflects the same data as RE NXT (Fundraising > Reporting) and RE Database View (Reports > Financial Reports > Gift Detail & Summary Report) and provides greater functionality for investigating your data and telling your organization’s data story:
Look for another video next week that dives deeper into data transformations and building the data model for received revenue.
Do you know how adjustments and write-offs are reflected in the gift data for Power BI?
Adjustments and write-offs would appear as returned in SKY API calls as the Power BI gift data is just assembling the returned SKY API data calls. The benefit is that you can return the adjustment and write-offs as negative amounts in your DAX and formulas in Power BI to avoid inflation that sometimes happens when folks add original gift amount (or split gift amounts) and write-offs.
Hi Graham, I am very very new to RE and Power BI so forgive my obvious questions. I am attempting to upload our constituent lists out of RE NXT into a Power BI dashboard. How do I do this? For example, I am needing the data for constituents who give automatically every month. I have managed to display the totals using the connector within all of our different categories of our donors but I am unsure of how to pull all of our lists. The constituent lists query just displays a list of the list names but no records within those lists.
